Excerpt: ... numberless instances of thy goodness towards us? We will enter into thy courts with thanksgiving, and pay our vows unto the most high. And, blessed be thy name, thou hast declared thyself willing to accept our prayers and praises, if presented in truth and sincerity. Encouraged by thy condescending goodness, we address thee, with the confidence of children to a father; for thou knowest our frame; thou pitiest our weakness, and wilt not despise or reject sincerity of heart, in our attempts to serve thee, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Thou hast graciously promised, by thy blessed son, that whatsoever we alk in his name, we shall receive; may we be so deeply impressed with the consideration of thy all-sufficiency, and our own innumerable wants, that we may duly value this inestimable promise, and rejoice in every opportunity of worshipping thee, and presenting our supplications at the throne of thy grace. May we come before thee at AFTERNOON. 19 this time, with suitable conceptions of thine infinite excellencies and perfections, that we may not rest in a mere outward form of godliness, but may offer unto thee a lively sacrifice, holy and acceptable in thy sight. May we attend to the instructions of thy word, with fear and reverence, sing thy praises with cheerfulness and gladness, and pray unto thee with earnest affection and steadiness of mind. May we, through the whole of this service, enjoy a delightful, uninterrupted communion with thee, the great father of our spirits, and thus experience how good it is, to draw near unto thee, in the ordinances of thine appointment.
